Buses in Cancun
Buses in Cancun and in Mexico provides excellent service running to every town no matter how small or far away. Every town has a bus terminal and tickets prices are extremely reasonable.
Fares
Public transportation run between the Hotel Zone and downtown from 6 AM until midnight and cost about 5 pesos.
This is a way of transportation that can save you lots of money instead of taxis and is a good way to get to know the locals. There are designated stops but you can also flag down drivers and if they can stop safely they will.
The driver will make change if you have no 1-2 peso coins. Make sure to hand your fare to the driver rather than tossing it in the fare basket; otherwise, no change.

Routes
When you want to travel to the hotel zone, you can take any Cancun public transporation with the sign "zona hotelera" on the front.
When you are coming out of the hotel zone, only Route 1 and Route 2 go to the downtown area. Route 1 goes to Avenida Tulum. You will know you've reached downtown when you see "Rolandi's" restaurant on the right and then a flea market on the right.
Route 2 crosses Avenida Tulum at the bottom and you should get off at that point. When you take Route 2, sometimes the driver would will let you know about this place.
For short trips up the hotel zone, you can also try other routes, just remember they are going to turn off some place before getting downtown.
From the airport
Cancun International Airport is 16 kilometers (9 miles) southwest of the heart of Cancun City.
There is service from the airport non-stop to the downtown terminal. The cost is only 35 pesos each way. First one from the airport is at 12:20 am, last transportation from the airport is 11:30 p.m. Catch it at terminal 2, at the other end of the terminal from where international arrivals exit customs.
This is not a good option if you have many bags. At the aiport you can also find
rental cars.
