Immigration to Mexico
Immigration to Mexico requires a FM3 (Green Card).
If you do not already have an FM3, fill in the FMT tourist card when you first enter Mexico. You will recieve an FMT card on the airplane.
If you already posess an FM3 from before, you must have had it stamped with "Salida" the last time you left the country or else you will be fined. You can always take a chance though and fill it out again and hope costums won't fine you if you are missing the stamp.
If you are not a Mexican you need a Green Card (or FM3 as they are called) if you have working or retirement plans here.
Tourists living in Cancun or Mexico for up to 6 months only need the 1 page FMT and no green card. If you plan on applying for the FM3 later you will still need to have the FMT and later convert it.
Requirements for FM3.
There are several ways to apply for the FM3. The best is to show that your income is around USD $1,050/month if single or USD $1,550 if married. If you own an apartment or house here, your income only needs to be %50 of the numbers above. These amount, however, might change often. So double check!
Only original copies are excepted showing deposits of your last 3 months' bank statements, or brokerage statements.
If you are moving with family, only one person needs to show income.
Your FM3 needs to be renewed each year. If you plan to work in Cancun you need to have the "working" FM3. In your FM3, the specific job you have in Mexico needs to be specified, and changed if you switch employment. We highly recommed you to have these papers in order to avoid any problems with the government.
