Moving Company - pick the right one for Mexico

To find a good moving company for international relocation you need to be picky and critical. Price is not always your main concern, but a huge factor.

International shipping is a competitive industri. Everyone wants to ship your furnitures. This is good for you! One that we recomend for Cancun is Crown Relocations - a world wide international relocator.

How to get the lowest price!

The initial price international movers offers are usually high. Do some research and compare prices. Then get back to the one you felt most comfortable with and present the competiters' prices. They will then work very hard to beat those or at least lower their initial price.

A few questions to ask your international movers

Registration number

Does the international shipping company have a registration number with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), called a USDOT number (US Department of Transportation Number)

Estimated rates

The companys rate should be based on weight and not cubic feet. They will use containers in a few set cubic feet sizes. If you don't fill one up you still have to pay for left over space. That is why weight estimates will lower your price. Ask for the estimate in writing where all charges are included and what payment options are offered.

Subcontractors

Most companies subcontract with smaller companies at different locations in the world. We recomend to pick a company that at least have an office in the country you are moving to. In Mexico Crown Relocations have an office in Mexico City. This makes it easy to get answers on date of arrivals, costums etc.

Insurance

Don't take a risk and skip insurance. You might think your furniture is safe inside a container. But when moving items in and out of the container many things can break.

The moving company will provide insurance at an additional cost. Insurance is usually based on weight, so you will need to compare the value of your goods versus what the insurance policy will provide should your belongings arrive damaged or not at all.

60 cents per pound is a pretty standard rate for shipping insurance.

Door to door

You need to pick a international shipping company that takes full reponsibility for your goods being moved from one place to the next. This means they should come to your house and pack everything right of the shelves and then drop it of inside your new house or apartment at your new destination. This way they break is covered by insurance.
