Renting Apartment in Cancun

Renting apartment in Cancun cost about $350-$500 a month. It is however kind of hard to find accomodation since there is no central listing other than the newspaper Novedades in Spanish. If you speak Spanish you have an advantage since you can talk directly with the landlords.

Good to know about renting in Cancun

Nearly every landord will have you sign a contract and they will have a notary public (lawyer). The notary will draft up the paperwork. It will cost you between 900 to 1,200 pesos. You will also be asked to put down a deposit which is usually 1 or 1,5 months rent.

Again the FM3 status is important also when leasing an apartment in Cancun. Many Notaries will not notarize the contract unless you have a FM3 retirement status. Some landlords don't require a notary which in that case your tourist visa will get you accomodation.

No deposit for utilities

You don't have to put down a deposit for phone or electricity when moving in. Landlord will however get stuck with your bills if you leave, and that is why they ask for a deposit when you move in.

Few furnished apartments

A typical Cancun rental apartment does not come furnished. That means that basically nothing is included. If you are lucky there will be stove or a fridge available.
